Bespoke interactive photo installation for a brand-driven event.
Speed Camera Experience
Foreword
For a corporate event for MAC Cosmetics in Berlin, we developed a custom interactive photo installation positioned directly at the venue entrance. The experience was commissioned by Eventtation, for NOWADAYS producing the event.
The setting: a 1965 Ford Mustang placed in front of a projection surface inside the Kantgaragenpalast Berlin, a former multi-storey car park with strong architectural character.
The experience
Guests stepped into the car and pressed a single red buzzer mounted in the center console. What followed felt deliberately familiar: a countdown, a bright flash, and a captured image that looked like a real speed camera ticket - complete with overlays, effects, and MAC branding.
Immediately after, guests could consent to usage, download their image via QR code, and later see it appear again in the running slideshow. The interaction was fast, playful, and intuitive.
From idea to live in days
The entire project went from first idea to live operation in under a week. Features were added during development as the concept evolved, including instant QR downloads and refined visual treatments.
This pace was only possible because we built on our in-house, purpose-built system rather than starting from scratch.
The system behind it
At the core was SenTK, our in-house sensor platform for reliable physical inputs, combined with TouchDesigner as the central system for camera, lighting, and interaction logic. This setup allowed us to adapt the experience quickly as requirements evolved.
In this case, a single physical button controlled the entire experience, but the same setup could just as easily support touchscreens, web-based interfaces, video capture, or different visual treatments. Branding was fully configurable without rewriting the application.
Our role
We handled the project end-to-end: consultation, development, technical installation, show operation, and dismantling. For the client, it was one point of contact and one coherent system.
Result
The installation ran flawlessly throughout the event. Almost every attendee used it, many more than once. Given the audience - models, influencers and industry professionals - the experience was clearly designed for visibility and shareability.
Why this matters
This project is a good example of how interactive installations can be:
Custom, without being fragile
Fast to realize, without sacrificing reliability
Creative, without locking clients into one-off solutions
